Blow: hard hit.
Bolted: locked with a metal bar.
Bruised: has got purple marks on the skin from an injury.
Fingerprints: marks from a person's fingers.
Frame: the wood or metal part surrounding a window.
Lean over: stretch over to reach something.
Lightning-rod: a piece of metal attached to a building to prevent lightning damage.
Released: let out.
Ribbon: a long narrow piece of cloth.
Shutters: wooden or metal covers on the outside of windows.
Slid down: moved smoothly down something.
Whip: a long piece of leather or rope used to hit animals or people.
